FINALLY- Varan!
I put him off forever, but here he is at last! Despite being a low calibur monster that never did a thing during the Godzilla series, I always loved Varan. I hated, however, the fact that he never got a chance to fight another monster or show off his abilities outside of his debut film, which I admit to have never seen. So, Varan was a prime candidate for Code Red. I wanted to do him justice, so I gave him as good a facelift as I could. With the name Varan, I always figured that he had some connection to Varanid lizards- monitors, goannas, komodos, etc. I immediately thought of the blunt-headed Savannah Monitor, so I designed my Varan using that as the basis. I also tweaked the color scheme, making it similar to the one used for the Trendmasters action figure. While still a melee fighter, I upped the ante on Varan's abilities. Now Varan has a septic bite akin to a Komodo Dragon, and his many spikes are filled with a deadly poison. Like in Marc Cerasini's "Godzilla 2000", this Varan takes off to glide via internal sacs which are filled with bouyant gas. Whether or not it's oxygen though, I havn't decided. |
