Even More MH Concepts

Yesh, more MH stuff. I was thinking of doing another page anyway, but I found :iconmhmonstermaker:, which officially gave me an excuse to do so.
Left to right, as per usual, folks.

Serpent Wyvern. A relative (not a -drome) of the Remobra, this wyvern would be very agile and maneuverable. It has no ranged attack, but it's strike has a long reach, is lightning fast, and is extremely venomous. Probably around Rathalos size, but obviously longer due to the build of it's body.

Volcanic Boru. A variant of the *insert english name for Boruborosu* that lives in the volcano zone. Smaller and with less health, but just as dangerous, if not more so. It's immune to the fire and dragon element, and in addition to it's burrowing can also swim through lava. While it doesn't have the mudslinging 'adobe' power, it makes up for it with the ability to spit balls of molten rock. These work essentially the same way as a fireball, only they continue to do fire damage for several seconds after the initial blast. The effect can be negated by fire-resistant armor or taking an extra cool drink.

Gryphon. Nothing new here, I just wanted to take another shot at the gryphon concept. I think this one looks better, and also more MH-ish in design.

Warrior Shaka. A new type of Shakalaka that, while less widespread, is much nastier. Their helmet (and camouflaged when buried under ground) is the skull of a Kelbi. Rather than the standard meat cleaver or club, Warrior Shakas fight with a double ended staff, tipped with Velociprey talons. In the desert zone they use the poisonous claws of Genprey to give their staffs a paralysis effect.

Khrino. I always thought it was really interesting how the Kirin in MH appears to be a unicorn, but when looked at more closely appears to be some sort of reptile (which makes sense, since mythological Kirin are actually dragons). I thought about that whole theory of unicorns being relic Elasmotheriums, which got me wondering what a rhinoceros-like relative of the Kirin might look like. I think it could probably work fine as a pure melee beast, but since the Kirin has powers I suppose this thing would too. Maybe instead of summoning lightning strikes, it summons geysers of lava to shoot out of the ground?

Baby Raths. I'd heard this idea suggested before on forums, but it was always either "ROFL thar shud b difensless bebes 4 u to kill too maek armr fastr" or "omg you should be able to tame baby wyverns and raise them as pets". I am fond of neither idea, but I do think that juvenile Rathalos/Rathians could work well in the game. We're always hearing about how protective they are of their young, but we never see anything other than the eggs. I picture it like this- you think you're doing a standard egg quest and rush into the lair. You get into the cave and realize that there are man-size Rathalos and Rathian hatclings sitting in the nest with the rest of the eggs, chirping and pecking at each other. The little Raths spot you and think you're food, hopping off from the ledge and scrabbling towards you, snapping their toothy little beaks and trying to pounce on you. They don't pose any more threat than the usual minion, but the catch is that, once you start fighting back, they'll start calling for help. So if you don't kill them fast, mom or dad will show up- and they'll be pissed. Would be especially bad if both parents are present... you'd be in that tiny little cave with a Rathalos and Rathian that are both in rage mode, plus their hungry chicks. Not my idea of fun. ;)

Missing Link. This was something I'd always wondered about, and apparently the guys at the MH wiki have been too... what the hell are Khezu, really? They clearly aren't real wyverns, they have an entirely different anatomy. I've always thought of them as being amphibians, and the recent revelation that they have a larval stage seems to agree with that theory- though technically, the Gravios has a larval stage too and it's a regular wyvern. Anyway, I got to thinking what the Khezu's ancestors might've looked like and came up with this. A blind cave salamander on steroids, basically. Smaller and faster, but flightless and devoid of the Khezu's signature electrical abilities- though it does have the same acidic saliva, which in this case can be spat at hunters like the Plesioth water geyser. Since these guys haven't yet made the switch to cave life permanent I picture them as being kind of colorful, like a poisonous frog. Maybe they started off vibrant, and then grew pale once they took to the subterannean lifestyle? I thought about giving it eyes, but I like it better without em. Who knows, maybe they never even had them in the first place.

Pseudo-Mantis. A was looking at the blurry still of the desert bugs from MH3, and it seemed to me that they resemble a cross between a grasshopper and a praying mantis. It's hard to tell from just that pic, but it also seemed like they had a four segmented body- a head, an upper thorax, lower thorax, and abdomen. Since everything is better with the suffix -drome slapped on the end of it, I doodled an uber version. This one can't hop (assuming that the regular ones can) since it lacks the elongated hindlegs, but it's got more powerful attacks and a paralyzing sting to boot. Since the minion ones are pretty small, I guess this guy probably wouldn't even be as big as a Velocidrome. Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if there actually is a creature like this in the game and we just don't know about it yet.

Sea Serpent. I was skeptical of the whole underwater angle when it was first brought up, but from the looks of things, Capcom knows what they're doing and it actually looks pretty cool. That being said, they're introducing an entire new world to MH here. There could technically be water to swim in at any of the standard zones, and you could even have new areas that are mostly or entirely underwater- so the possibilities for new monsters are practicaly endless here. So I really, really hope that capcom has more marine and amphibious enemies up their sleeves than just the sea dragon. This was just one concept I did, of a MH-style sea serpent. Looks like he'd probably be pretty big, too. The underwater equivalent of Lao Shan Lung, maybe?
