Description

ZIGRA

Powers and Abilities:

* Heavily armored. Zigra’s plates are made of a lightweight but incredibly strong heat-resistant metal. Its edges are extremely sharp, capable even of piercing Gamera’s hard shell.

* Small organ above beak can fire a thin, red beam. Deadlier than it appears.

* Can control the minds of weaker beings (ie, humans).

* Linked to an ancient engine inside Earth’s moon.

* Able to adapt to any terrain by morphing his body.

History:

[Guardian of the Universe]

Nearly a week passed without incident.

Then, out of the blue, a mysterious metal shard entered Earth’s atmosphere. Giving off a blinding glimmer as it soared over the horizon, it crashed into the Pacific ocean and disappeared. Unbeknown to it’s witnesses, the shard was alive; it had already grown fins and eyes by the time it hit the sea floor.

Morphing into his marine form, the techno-organic monster Zigra returned to life. Immediately he sent an invisible signal into space, restoring an age-old connection that would spell doom for all mankind. Thousands of miles away ancient mechanisms of The Cycle kicked back to life, and an engine older than most of the human race silently began it’s work.

Watching from Mars, the Legnals were astounded: Earth’s moon was moving on it’s own. Completely ignoring it’s natural orbit, the moon slowly put itself between Earth and the sun and stayed there. Down below, chaos engulfed the world: hurricane winds and perpetual night plagued the land as the ocean ceased to ebb and flow; animals changed behaviors, temperatures shifted, and even the rotation of the Earth began to change. As global ecological disaster struck, Gamera looked grimly to the sky; he had seen this before. He was not the only one to take notice.

Meanwhile, in Yokohama, a new figure stepped forth: a beautiful but eerily calm young woman who referred to herself only as The Voice of Zigra. After dispatching several armed guards on her own, she took over a television station to spread her word directly to the people of Japan: her master, the harbinger Zigra, had already sealed mankind’s fate. The next stage of The Cycle had begun and Extinction was already on its way. Resistance would be pointless; the destruction of humankind and its defender was now completely inescapable.

His message delivered, Zigra released his puppet and attacked the coast, razing cities from afar with his beam and sinking every vessel in sight. The JSDF attacked with all it’s might, but Zigra swept them aside without effort. Seemingly indestructible, he casually laid waste to everything around him. Then Gamera appeared.

Completely changing his demeanor, Zigra ignored the coast and attacked. A vicious battle broke loose, each monster desperate and determined to kill the other. At his strongest underwater, Gamera was shrugging off tremendous amounts of damage and bashing his foe into the rocks below. Zigra, however, held the real advantage; immune to the heat of his breath and able to cut through his shell, he was effectively wearing the Guardian down. The ocean swirled green with his blood.

Realizing that he could not achieve victory underwater, Gamera grabbed hold of Zigra and rocketed out of the ocean. Soaring high over the beach, he released his water-bound foe and watched him plummet to certain doom. But no impact followed. Suddenly spreading his fins into a pair of enormous wings, Zigra pulled up and shot back into the sky.

The battle resumed abruptly as Gamera found himself fighting in the airspace over Yokohama. In his flying form Zigra had become more of a ranged fighter, swiftly avoiding the giant turtle’s attacks and pushing him back with lasers and wind. As he continued to wear down his prey, however, the JSDF moved in; flying high with fighter jets and armor-piercing missiles, they were ready to support their hero.

But Zigra had other plans. Seizing control of the pilots’ minds, he took over the aircraft and turned them against Gamera. Refusing to fight back, the armor-plated Guardian did his best to endure their attacks and focus on the enemy; he would have to discover a way to break Zigra’s control to save them. Before he could, the fiend made another move: he took direct control of the pilots and forced them one by one to kill themselves… by flying straight into Gamera.

Mortified and infuriated, Gamera threw himself at Zigra with unprecedented savagery. He threw all caution to the wind and attacked with such ferocity that the course of battle changed immediately. Beaten within an inch of his life, Zigra dropped from the sky and crashed into a burning office building. Gamera, slowly regaining his composure, lowered into the city.

Devastation surrounded him: fires started by his wanton breath, buildings crushed by his own two hands. The city had suffered the exact same wrath Zigra had, and now it laid in ruin. He had destroyed Yokohama. Stunned, Gamera stopped his attack. As he stood among the wreckage a soft, tiny sound reached his ears. He turned around.

Crumbling by his side was an apartment building, half-collapsed and missing a floor. Without a roof, it’s contents were plainly visible: sobbing uncontrollably, a small girl stared up at him with wide, horrified eyes. She crouched by a giant pile of rubble, the remnants of the caved-in ceiling… sticking out from beneath it was a single, limp hand.

Absolutely paralyzed, Gamera stood where he was, silent and overwhelmed. Zigra rose behind him, eyes narrow and aglow, and spread his wings.

Gamera spun around with a violent roar, smashing into Zigra and throwing him back into the flames. The monsters fought one last time amid the ruins, and Gamera, mercilessly beating his foe into the ground with nothing but sheer brute force, dealt the final blow. Zigra collapsed, dead… but victorious.

Nearly a hundred miles away, an ancient relic of unknown importance stirred.

History:

[Destroyer of Mankind]

When he regained consciousness, Gamera nonchalantly destroyed everything around him and departed. With the Legion horde exterminated it was business as usual once again. For nearly a week he terrorized the Japanese without distraction.

Watching from their observatories, astronomers all across the globe were awestruck: Earth’s moon was moving on it’s own. As global ecological disaster struck, Gamera looked into the sky. For once The Cycle’s interference did not bother him. A toothy grin spread across his face.

Resistance would be pointless: the destruction of the human race was now completely inescapable.

His message delivered, Zigra released his puppet and attacked the coast, razing cities from afar with his beam and sinking every vessel in sight. The JSDF attacked with all it’s might, but Zigra swept them aside without effort. Seemingly indestructible, he casually laid waste to everything around him. Then, wading into the bay, Gamera appeared.

Zigra cut off his attack immediately to face his ancient foe. A vicious battle broke loose by the coast, each monster eager to slaughter the other. At his strongest underwater, Gamera was truly a force to be reckoned with, but Zigra was the one really holding an advantage. Immune to the heat of Gamera’s breath and able to cut through his shell, he was slowly wearing the turtle down.

Gamera snarled unhappily, taking notice; he would have to even the playing field. Choosing to swim away from the shore rather than toward it, he lead Zigra into deeper water. Abruptly, he stopped and dug his claws into the silt, then goaded his foe to attack. He obliged, but this time it was a mistake. As he drew near Gamera launched up toward the surface, heaving a giant undersea boulder with him; Zigra crashed into it, throwing Gamera backward but impaling his horn in rock. Panicked, Zigra plummeted to the sea floor; with the boulder stuck on his horn he could not swim and his laser was useless.

Fully aware of both, Gamera advanced without fear and sadistically kicked his handicapped foe about. He continued until the light faded from Zigra’s eyes. Then he simply swam away, leading the motionless body at the bottom of the ocean. Now that he’d had his fun it was time to remind Yokohama why they feared him.

Explosions rocked the coast as The Destroyer returned to his duties. He demolished everything in his path, hurling cranes, smashing bridges, and rocketing through the hearts of mighty skyscrapers. As the people ran for their lives, a familiar glimmer showed on the horizon: bursting out of the sea on giant wings, Zigra shrieked menacingly and charged for shore. His defeat had merely been a rouse; by feigning death he had bought himself enough time to break free.

Now more irritated than enthusiastic, Gamera shot into the air and crashed directly into his opponent. Once again they tangled in combat, now fighting in and above the flaming city. Wounded from their previous conflict, Gamera still found himself placing second best. Pummeled by lasers and sliced across the back, he crashed into the street below with a giant blast of fire and dirt. As he struggled back to his feet, Zigra circling overhead, he noticed something.

Crumbling by his side was a damaged apartment building, half-collapsed torn wide open. Without a roof, it’s contents were plainly visible: sobbing uncontrollably, a small girl stared up at him with wide, horrified eyes. She crouched by a giant pile of rubble, the remnants of the caved-in ceiling. Sticking out from beneath it was a single, limp hand.

Gamera paused a moment… then, without missing a beat, incinerated the entire building.

Taking to the sky, he resumed his war with Zigra. The conflict moved further inland but with no major change in pace: Gamera had managed to wound his foe’s soft underbelly using his claws and spurs, but the wounds were not grievous enough; he would bleed out long before Zigra. Desperate for a solution, he scanned the horizon for something useful. Almost immediately he found something.

Steering the fight in the direction he wanted, Gamera tackled Zigra into the ground with an earth-shaking crash. The monsters had landed in a park, and nearby, painted with the smiling, colorful faces of children’s cartoon characters, stood a giant wind turbine. As his enemy rose to attack, Gamera tore off one of the turbine’s giant rotors: using it like a shank, he plunged the makeshift blade into Zigra’s throat. Seizing him by the horn with his other hand, he stabbed the shrieking monster again and again. As the life faded from his eyes once and for all, Gamera buried the rotor deep in Zigra’s chest and snapped it off.

Bloody and breathing heavily, Gamera kicked the eviscerated corpse aside and glanced at the eclipse. There would be time to heal, but just barely… the moment he’d been waiting for was finally at hand.

Nearly a hundred miles away, an ancient relic stirred in the dark.
