Tarrun is an Earth-like world with a great variety of plant and animal life. Its wildernesses remains largely untouched by humans, who here are at the bottom of the food chain and cannot afford to venture far outside their established cities. On Tarrun there is only one major landmass, so the continent is not distinguished from the planet; both are simply called "Tarrun". The oceans surrounding the continent are mostly unexplored, and thus unnamed, but the general terms North, South, East, and West are commonly used. Tarrun has a sun much like the Earth's, albeit smaller and closer, and two moons named Zaos and Aeon.

Kaiju, short for Daikaijuu, are enigmatic, giant creatures known for their great destructive power and immunity to most forms of weaponry. They vary drastically in form and temperament and are usually, though not always, one of a kind individuals with no genus, species, or evolutionary background. They exist in every corner of the globe and are always the dominant life forms in their environment. How they function and come into being is unknown, but fossil remains suggest they have inhabited Tarrun far longer than human beings.

Allinos is a thriving metropolis situated at the base of the Goronian Mountains in northwest Tarrun. Though surrounded by a desolate wasteland, many consider the city itself to be one of the most beautiful in all of Tarrun, especially at night. It has a large, growing population and a booming economy supported by trade with a number of other city-states. Its major exports are precious stones and ores mined from the mountains, as well as the mysterious substance mana, which is gathered through a non-destructive means and stored in an underground "well" beneath the city. This is by far the Allinians' most demanded resource, as it is a potent power source with almost limitless applications. Allinos itself is highly dependent on this substance, using it as fuel for many of their larger machines, such as their giant force-field generator and anti-kaiju tripod mechs. It is by use of these automated defenses that they have managed to persist past the days of their former guardians Vangar and Aphila.

Iridan is a mysterious, technologically advanced city-state located in the rugged northeast. It is surrounded on all sides (even above) by a gigantic, impenetrable wall. Essentially a city within a fortress, it is entirely indoors and cannot be seen from outside. The people who dwell there are peaceful, but powerfully antisocial. They do not allow outsiders into the city gates and rarely leave themselves; in fact, most people have never seen an Iridian in the flesh. Most communicate only by use of floating monitor screens that project their face and voice. In order to trade with other city-states they send unmanned vehicles and cargo-carrying robots across the continent. They also send support to their allies this way, transporting mana and supplies to those in need. The Iridians have never been observed participating in an actual conflict, however, and are believed to be pacifists.

Ragadin is a large, magnificent city located on the outskirts of the Gyrik Desert. It is one of the oldest settlements in Tarrun and has existed for close to five-hundred years. Many of its buildings, especially former temples and palaces, are centuries old and remain completely unchanged since their construction. Though its people take great pride in their history Ragadin is very much a modern society. Like Allinos, it attracts people from all across the globe and is actively involved in trade, being a major center for architecture, astronomy, medicine, and botany. It is often called the "Oasis City" because despite its arid location it actually has a surplus of water; an elaborate aqueduct system beneath the city supplies every home with cool drinking water and powers everything from fountains and water gardens to manmade lakes.

The Ternary Council is an intercontinental organization lead by Tarrun's three most stable city-states: Allinos, Iridan, and Ragadin. Its focus is to encourage cooperation, trade, and communication between the three powers while also looking out for the interests of their allies. It assembles twice every year, once in Allinos and once in Ragadin, to have an open forum for discussing matters of global importance. Historically it has been lead by three government officials, each representing for one of the council's cities. The current representatives are Aidan Finnbar (Allinos), Xavier Nikolai (Iridan), and Mina Lochana (Ragadin).

Kymaera Industries is a corporation well known for its exploits in gene splicing. It was originally met with fierce resistance, as the general opinion among the public was that the genetic code was not something to be tampered with. Fears of immorality and irresponsibility were voiced, but despite constant protests the company persisted and proved itself to be trustworthy. Since its inception Kymaera has produced a number of highly beneficial products including drought and insect resistant crops, cloned donor organs, and vaccines for fighting heart disease; the genetically engineered pet Tokua syntheticus is also of their design. Their work has earned them enormous respect, multiple humanitarian awards, and great financial success. Recently they have decided to expand their services by opening a wing devoted entirely to anti-kaiju technology.

Experimental Transgenetic Organism, or E.T.O., is a blanket term used to describe any living thing created by man rather than nature. Most are genetically modified plants used for agriculture, though animal E.T.O.s, like Kymaera's Toku, are occasionally created for use as pets. All are designed under strict legal guidelines, guaranteed to be genetically stable and harmless to both humans and the environment.

The AKT-7 “Tripod Mechs” are colossal, unmanned robots used by the Allinian military. Inspired by Iridan's small transport robots, they were designed to be the city's replacement for Vangar and Aphila. Earlier models like the prototype AKT-1 and two-legged MGP-5 were given test runs all across Tarrun and saw enormous success; as a result many are still in use today and the Allinian line was further developed, giving rise to the modern AKT-7s.

As the name suggests, Tripods are three-legged and very stable. Unlike the failed attempts at mecha created by other city-states, the Tripods are not meant to be fast or fight in close quarters. AKT-7s have no melee capabilities and are designed to take out kaiju quickly and from a distance, saving themselves from damage and preventing unnecessary loss of human life. Their exceptional height furthers this goal, giving them a superior vantage point and the ability to intimidate monsters smaller than themselves. In many cases kaiju will ignore other weapons systems if a Tripod is present, instinctually viewing it as a more equal threat due to its size.

The Tripod's main weapons, the Z-10 Eviscerators, are hard to miss. Mounted on either side just below the head, these mammoth gatling guns measure 50 feet from end to end and are very aptly named. They can only manage automatic fire for a few seconds before overheating, but with anti-kaiju rounds and a ferocious rate of fire they can easily tear most kaiju to shreds. If that fails, compartments in the head can splay out to reveal twin DBR (“Damn Big Rocket”) launchers, as well as a small laser which can be used for precision attacks. Needless to say, a group of these mechs is nothing to sneeze at and they have done an impressive job of defending Allinos thus far; their track record is easily the best among current anti-kaiju weapons.

Recent events, however, have not been as kind to their reputation. Several Tripods were destroyed in the attempt to repel Cerabos, and both he and Theraga displayed an unprecedented ability to resist the Z-10s firepower. Compared to the usual massacre that takes place when a Delgaro attacks, the Tripods' performance was “less than satisfactory”. Doubts of their efficiency are beginning to rise, as are rumors that a new model may be needed.

The MPSR-03 “Hemlock”, or “Multicannon” as it's also sometimes called, is an experimental rifle produced by Kymaera Industries and currently being tested by Caitlyn Thorn and her team. A truly revolutionary piece of engineering, it boasts the attack power of anti-kaiju artillery in the comparatively tiny frame of a handheld firearm. Though it lacks the power necessary to handle a kaiju alone, the fact that it can even harm them is remarkable; up until its creation, no machine under 7 tons could handle the recoil from anti-kaiju rounds. Kymaera is currently keeping the gun's inner workings a secret, and perhaps for good reason: the implications of this new technology are far reaching (to say the least), and in the wrong hands could certainly make weapons of mass destruction. Naturally, the militaries of Tarrun are also very interested in it, but Kymaera has so far declined all offers under the assertion that the weapon is still in its prototype stage and not yet ready for mass production.

It should also be noted that the Hemlock not only fires anti-kaiju rounds, but a plethora of them, all exclusive to the weapon. This gives it an impressive amount of versatility, ideal for Caitlyn's task of supporting Theraga in combat against various monsters. It's known munitions are as follows:

HPAK Regulation Round – The HPAK is the Hemlock's standard round, a large but surprisingly lightweight shell designed to pierce kaiju hide. Similar in design to the (much, much larger) rounds fired by heavy artillery across the globe.

UG1 Heavy Bore – A huge, hefty round intended for well-armored monsters. It must be used with care; the Heavy Bore can easily punch through the body of a thin skinned target and continue to do damage elsewhere. Even the Hemlock can't fully negate its recoil.

ANF Flare – A light, hollow round filled with compressed combustible material. Brighter than the average flare, it can be used to blind and distract monsters just as well as to signal or light up the dark.

ADS Tranq. - A prototype round that sticks to a kaiju's hide and injects it with sedative. Naturally, even the most powerful tranquillizer can't bring down a kaiju in a single shot and multiple injections are required. As a necessity, there are dozens of different sedatives that can be put into this round; the wildly varying biology of kaiju makes it impossible to formulate a single solution that effects them all.

UND Trailing Round – A very light, high-speed round that attaches itself to a kaiju's hide. Each shot contains a tiny chip that can be tracked electronically. Because the round is so tiny compared to the kaiju, most don't realize they've been tagged and make no effort to remove it.

IBV Enhancement Round – The IBV is another main stable of the Hemlock's arsenal, a beneficial round which is used to help monsters rather than harm them. It injects a vaccine that strengthens the immune system and speeds up a kaiju's natural regeneration. Like the Tranq. Round, it requires multiple shots to truly take effect and doesn't work on every kaiju. Currently only two versions of the vaccine are being produced, one for Korugor & Theraga and one for Ginkura.

HTTA Incendiary Round – An extremely volatile round that combusts after impact, the HTTA is used primarily against monsters with fast regeneration or an aversion to heat. It has the same armor-piercing qualities as the standard HPAK, making up for its relatively small blast radius by piercing a monster's hide before detonation. The combustible inside is also a liquid and naturally splatters from the explosion, coating the surrounding flesh and igniting it.
Just a quick rundown of some of the most important things and places in Tarrun. :)

Pretty cool stuff here. How big are Tarrun, Zaos, and Aeon compared with Earth and the Moon?
