Tarrun: Scavengers [OUTDATED]

Description

Lich Worms are a type of plump, leathery-skinned fly larvae that feed on carrion. They specialize in scavenging dead kaiju, feeding on any exposed flesh or organ tissue, as well as sucking up smaller scavengers like mites and worms. They also produce copious amounts of slime from the pores on their side, presumably as a defensive measure against birds and other potential predators. What’s remarkable about this is the fact that their slime contains a unique chemical compound that deteriorates kaiju skin. So as the Lich Worm crawls about it naturally leaves a trail of softened hide behind it, allowing other scavengers to gnaw through the otherwise impenetrable skin and begin to feed. This behavior speeds up the decomposition process considerably and makes the Lich a key part of Tarrun’s ecosystem.

Orange Corpse Chippers are squat, soft-bodied insects the size of toads. Like the Lich Worm, they are a type of scavenger that has adapted to life with kaiju. Because the bodies they scavenge are so immense, Chippers have had to evolve into perfect meat processing machines. Their thorax and head are mostly hollow, devoted to concealing their massive, chitonous mouthparts. These gruesome looking jaws can bore through flesh at an alarming rate, moving independently or in unison to tear off vast quantities of meat. Best described as a living conveyer belt, they excrete as much as they ingest thanks to an extremely efficient digestive system and set of quadruple anuses. Once a Corpse Chipper is done feeding, it will dig into the soil and hibernate until food is made available again.
