History:

[Guardian of the Universe]

The next monster to appear was one that had not been seen by human eyes for many thousands of years. He had disappeared one Cycle, inexplicably vanishing before Gamera could find him. Despite countless Cycles and rebirths, the beast had never come back.

Now, the reason was clear.

As the monster laid dormant underground, waiting to be awakened, something had overtaken him. A fungus, vast, virulent, and apathetic toward The Cycle, had infected Malcobkarappa, and over the course of an eon quietly absorbed him. Now nothing but a titanic fruiting body for the fungus, he had become an abomination, a lifeless puppet driven only by the will to reproduce.

Exploding from the Earth, Malcob rose in Fukushima City without warning. He destroyed everything around him, killing thousands in the un-evacuated city and spreading spores everywhere. The JSDF, though able to contain the infection with well-armed ground troops, could not stop the full-grown monster. Powerless, they did the only thing they could: keep fighting until the cavalry arrived.

And arrive he did. Unable to ignore the massive loss of life that had taken place, Gamera rocketed to the scene almost immediately. He surprised the monster with a volley of fireballs, knocking him off balance before landing and engaging him in claw-to-claw. As the monsters battled the JSDF called back their men, knowing the area was now too dangerous for infantry. It was on Gamera now to control the situation.

The fight went on for some time, with Malcobkarappa proving to be a much stronger foe than anticipated. With his powerful arms and armored back, he was holding his own against Gamera. At the same time, the multitudes of spores he had launched were beginning to develop into mushroom-like structures all across the city.

Noticing the giant fungi, Gamera realized he had to act; whatever the giant growths were for, it couldn't be good. Risking further attack from his enemy, Gamera backed off from the fight and began to target the mushrooms, blasting them with fireballs. All the while Malcob continued to lash out against him; destroying the mushrooms would be no easy task, but eventually, it was accomplished.

With nothing left between him and his enemy, Gamera began his assault anew. He fought with great tenacity, and though weakened, he eventually managed to gain the upper hand. With a continuous stream of flames he torched Malcob, killing him and burning away the millenial growth that covered his body. Now, after an eon of suffering, Malcobkarappa had finally been put to rest.

History:

[Destroyer of Mankind]

They struggled against the monster for as long as they could, but were eventually forced to retreat- they had a bigger problem now.

Gamera, drawn by the commotion, had arrived. Advancing deliberately on foot, he tore his way through the city, smashing everything in sight. The fleeing evacuees, trapped between him and Malcobkarappa, were sitting ducks; their screams filled the air as Gamera marched on.

Now face to face with his enemy, Gamera charged into battle. The giant fungus soon proved a worthy adversary, using his powerful arms and stretchy tendrils to keep his enemy at bay. At the same time, the mushrooms spawned from his spores were now beginning to grow.

Gamera, unconcerned by the stationary fungus, continued to fight the threat at hand. In a fury of claws and fire he drove Malcob back, forcing him to bunker down in the ground. Fireball after fireball bounced off the monster's cap, but The Destroyer would not stop. He had not gotten this far by being stupid and easily discouraged.

Grabbing hold of Malcob's cap, he released the thunder of his jets. Pulling with incredible force and blasting his foe with constant heat, the outcome was inevitable. Malcob's arms gave way in a sickening splat, and a moment later, the monsters were thousands of feet above the city. Giving his foe a final sneer, Gamera let go. Several seconds later, he was nothing cut a crater on the ground.

Gamera lowered himself slowly, taking in the devastation. Malcobkarappa, armless and smoldering, lay motionless in a crater. With his victory absolute, Gamera released a furious roar and started to walk away. The battle, however, was not over.

All around Malcob, slimy white tendrils rose from the surface. The mushrooms, with their vast underground network of roots, was now channeling energy back to the monster. With a murderous shriek Malcob stirred anew, not only fully revived, but now regenerating. Turning around, Gamera was shocked to see his foe standing again; new tendrils sprouting from his wounds.

Pulling into his shell and launching forward, Gamera rammed Malcob full-force, tearing him away his veiny support and throwing him across the city. The instant he hit the ground, however, more roots attached. Losing his patience, Gamera flew at the monster again and lifted him off the ground, throwing him into a skyscraper. With a violent crash he stuck, lodged in the building's side hundreds of feet above ground.

But still the tendrils rose, slithering up like vines. Furious, Gamera blasted the structure down with his breath and turned his attention elsewhere. He would have to destroy the mushrooms if he wanted Malcob dead.

Soaring across the city, Gamera rained fiery hell on everything below him; any mushrooms not blown away by the initial attack were engulfed by the resulting wildfire. The flames spread in an instant, covering the area and completely surrounding Malcob. As the inferno closed in, it seemed clear what the giant's doom would be... but another, slower death now appeared before him. Wading through the fire, Gamera silently approached.

Only the rising flames would see his handiwork.
