Description

“Just some sketches I did today. These are the walker mechs the Iridians use instead of trading with us in-person. I don’t know what their technical name is. But they load them up with as much stuff as they can and let them wander off on their own, no weapons or anything. They have antennae on them so I guess they’re remote controlled, but they also don’t have cameras or eyes, so I’m not sure how the Iridians know where they’re going. Maybe the antennae’s for something else and they’re actually AI driven?

Anyway, they’re funny little things. If you step in front of one it’ll stop and walk around you, but no matter how many times you do it it’ll never react differently. It won’t speed up to get away from you and it won’t try pushing you out of the way. It just casually goes around you and keeps trotting along like nothing ever happened.

They’re scared of kaiju, though. If one gets close they’ll fold up their legs right away and lay on the ground, totally still. I’m not sure if they actually turn off or if they’re just hiding their energy signature, but if you point a mana scanner at them it’ll say there’s nothing there. That must be how they keep monsters from bothering them. From what I’ve seen they don’t know the difference between friend and foe though, and they do their little “play dead” trick every time Theraga walks by, haha.

If they get through the wilds without being bothered (and most of them do) they walk into the city they were sent to and stop to let people unpack them. The top half of the body flips up and most of the supplies are inside; canned food, fabric, spices, small mana batteries, that sort of thing. The packages attached to them hold hardier stuff, like waterproofed electronics and non-perishable food items. They usually don’t carry much, but the local vendors tell me they can lift four hundred pounds on their back. I don’t know why they’d ever need to though, if the Iridians have an extra-big shipment they can just send a supply car or two with the walkers. They’re slow and not very reliable on rough terrain, but each one probably holds as much as five mechs.”

Finally walkers that are not too Star Wars-ish. Nice job!
